She lived in a childrens home in Hattiesbu which was run by a Mrs. Holmes (friend of Will-Annes) Will-Anne and Jerry had physical custody of Beatrice at the time. They were also beginning divorce proceedings when Will-Anne fled to California with Beatrice undertow. According to the Mississippi Childrens HOme society, jerry wisdom continued to pursue adoption. Will-Anne hired an attorney in Los Angeles to advise the home she was there and wanted to adopt. Shortly thereafer, she moved to Bakersfield where her sister lived. She was known all of her life as Helen (Richmond) Dunlap. She never kn who her real mother was before she died, although she had often wondered. She spent most of her youth in Bakersfield, Ca with Will-Anne's married sister, Jimmie Lee Wottring of 509 "H" Street, Bakersfield, Ca. Jimmie lived in the same house since about 1917 until her death in about Oct. 1990. Jimmie originally was believed to be her birth mother, however, after Helen's death, two of her daughters tracked down her real parents who are the ones listed here. Betti Watters, Director of Adoption/Maternity Services with MS Children Home Society provided a history of Helen Ann Richmond as follows: Beatrice Ann Stewart was released for adoption by her mother, Mrs. Alice Stewart on February 15, 1919. Information secured at the time said she was born on December 27, 1917 at King's Daughters Home in Natchez. Her mother, age 17 at the time, was said to be from Starkville. A relative named Mrs. C. W. Dunn, Jr of Meridian, was listed on the form. The reason given for the child being released was, "the mother has no means of support". Information stated in the record revealed a Mrs. Blanche Holmes of this organization arranged for Mr. & Mrs. J. J. Wisdom of Hattiesburg to take the child. She received excellent care in the Wisdom's home, according to reports in the record, and they wished to adopt her. However, Mrs. Wisdom took the baby to Los Angeles and never returned to Mississippi. An attorney in Los Angeles (William B. Thomas, of A. C. - Bartlett Building), wrote the agency on behalf of Mrs. Wisdom's attempts to adopt this child. Mr. Wisdom also wanted to adopt her so she could inherit h property and money and he could educate her. There was a statement that he was afraid Mrs. Wisdom would put her in "moving pictures as a juveni actress". There is no record of any adoption having taken place.
