My Great Grandpa was born Homer Yeager Stewart. He was not fond of the name 'Homer', so he went by his middle name, Henry. He traveled to Alberta, Canada in his 20's and all documentation was from then on with the name of "Henry Steward". It is unknown if Census takers in the US had been spelling the last name wrong all along or if he decided to change the spelling. I had thought this may be to avoid the draft, but he went to war for Canada in World War 1 so it is unlikely.) He was one of the 'founding fathers' of Whitecourt, Alberta.
