Biography

Catherine was possibly a daughter of John Colquhoun, 3rd of Glens.^[1]

Research Notes

According to FraserJohn Colquhoun, 3rd of Glens.^[1] Catherine was a daughter of Matthew Lennox and married John Colquhoun, third of Glens.

The basis for this claim is a pedigree chart with scant details, but from the date of the marriage of the granddaughter Margaret on that chart, Margaret was born before 1523, her parents were married before 1522 and her father George was born before 1506 placing the marriage of Katherine before 1505 and her birth before 1493.

Catherine had been attached as a daughter of Elizabeth Hamilton who did marry Matthew Lennox but no until 9 Apr 1494.^[2] Matthew did have a previous wife, Margaret Lyle, and they had married sometime between 1471 and 13 Jun 1480 leaving it plausible that she was the daughter of Matthew by his first wife, though not listed in Scots Peerage.

That volume 5 does not list any children for Matthew and Margaret Lyle certainly does not preclude that SP erred - although SP is considered reliable, it has thousands of errors many of which are listed in volume 9. Interestingly, an error was made regarding Janet who was said to be a daughter of the First Earl of Lennox but is corrected to be a daughter of the Second Earl.^[3] Although SP does not say by which wife (she is currently connected to the fist wive but the correctness of that is not certain).
