Biography

Mary was the daughter of Janet Cardie and Robert Stewart, English teacher.

In 1865, aged 23, she married Allan Love, a coal miner. Mary had 3 children, daughter Janet and 2 sons, Robert and Allan

Birth Index shows Mary as Mary Cardin.

The family later moved to Partick where Allan was employed as a ship painter. The Love family lived on Orchard Street and later moved down the road to Graham Street. Their son Robert married in 1883 to Elizabeth Sinclair.

Five years later Mary was widowed in 1888 when Allan passed away aged 50. She never remarried and Janet and son Allan remained at home.

Mary suffered with ill health and unable to work was reliant on an allowance from the Societies and the support her son Allan provided from his income. Allan, was to pass away aged just 33 in January 1901 and Mary was left with no alternative to apply for Parish Relief. Daughter Janet was unemployed and her son Robert was unable to help having 4 children and a wife to support.

The following year Mary Love died in May 1902 aged 69yrs at her home No 18 Muirhead Street, Partick. Her daughter Janet was to marry the following month to Matthew Baxter.
