Biography

The book "Londonderry Stewarts - Genealogy of" claims that the father of John Stewart, born 9/12/1745 was named Samuel. However Philip Battell Stewart, 6 Saball Ct., Sewall's Pt., Stuart, Florida stated to me in a phone conversation that this was incorrect and that his name was James. Philip indicated that James' wife Alice married James' brother Samuel after James died, so this may be the source of confusion. History & genealogy of the Hubbell family. 3rd ed. Compiled & edited by Harold Berresford Hubbell, Jr. & Donald Sidney Hubbell. 1980. Brooklyn, NY : Theo. Gaus, Ltd. also has John's father as Samuel (pg. 92). Severance also has Samuel as John's father, with no record of James other than his being a son of John, perhaps based upon John's will. To deal with the confusion, on my dunscombe.info site I have listed James as the father of John, and Samuel as the father of the other children, as detailed in Severance. Samuel’s son, also James, was killed in "Harmar's Defeat" by the Indians, near Fort Wayne, Indiana (Severance, B. Frank. Genealogy and biography of the descendants of Walter Stewart of Scotland and of John Stewart who came to America in 1718 and settled in Londonderry, N.H. Greenfield, Mass. : T. Morey & Son, 1905, pg. 92). The marriage to Margaret and all children except for John conflicts with my information (Edward a Andrew Dunscombe I.e. Dunscombe-15)

Stuart-1767 and Stewart-2425 appear to represent the same person because: There are numerous duplicates in both of these profiles. This is as good a place as any to start the merges. The problem is the LNAB should be STEWART which has been duplicated on various profiles as STUART. when using the correct LNAB then it is obvious that we are talking about the Stewarts of Londonderry/Colrain in Massachusetts Bay.
