Biography

David Stewart is an Anzac who served in World War One.

David Robert Stewart was born in 1896 at Wallsend, New South Wales. He was a son of Charles Stewart and Elizabeth Griffith.[1]

David married Violet Houghton Foster in 1915 at Wallsend.[2]

David served in the Australian Imperial Force during The Great War; enlisted 5th June 1917, returned to Australia 12th December 1918.[3] He was a member of the 13th Australian Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade. The battalion spent much of the latter part of 1917 in Belgium advancing to the Hindenburg Line. In March and April 1918, the battalion helped to stop the German spring offensive. It subsequently played a role in the great allied offensive of 1918, fighting near Amiens on 8th August 1918. The 4th Brigade continued operations until late September 1918.[4]

David passed away on 10th November 1978 at St Marys, New South Wales.[5]
