Biography

James Stewart was born about 1829 in Bermuda. He is the son of Duncan Stewart and Sarah Amelia Darrell.

In 1851, aged 22, he was living at 28 Keppel Street, Bloomsbury, London. His brother John, aged 29, was the head of the house, and his brother Leonard, aged 24 was also resident. Both his brothers were “students at law” and all three were born in Bermuda.

Marriage

In 1859 he married his 1st wife Julia Bramson Reinagle. Newspaper notice as follows:

“At Leigh Worcestershire, on the 20th inst, by the Rev. Jas Haldane Stewart M.A. Rector of Millbrook, Hants, James Stewart Esq of the Stock Exchange, London, fourth son of Duncan Stewart, Esq. Attorney-General of Bermuda, to Julia Bramson, elder surviving daughter of the late George Philip Reinagle, Esq.”

In 1861 he was lodging with Samuel and Eliza Pegler in Portman Street, Marylebone. He was widowed. He was a stockbroker.

He was then married to his 2nd wife Jane Elizabeth Lawrence in 1866 she was a widow the daughter of William James Bell. She already had several children. In 1871 they were living in Kensington. He was a stockbroker.
