Biography

Sarah was born in 1845.[1]

Sarah Elizabeth Stewart was born Jan. 26th, 1841, in Jacksonville Co., near Chillicothe, Ohio, and departed this life on Christmas evening 1914 at 7:25 at the age of 70 years and 11 months.

She moved with her parents to Morgan county, Ill., when eight years old, where she resided until sixteen years old, then moving to Scotland county, Missouri. She was married to Howard Davis in Scotland county, Aug. 17th, 1862. This union was blessed with seven children, three boys and four girls. The oldest son dying in infancy. The living are Clarence of Bonaparte; Nathaniel who resides in Bend, Oregon; Mrs. Bradshaw of Redford, Mont.; Mrs. McKibben of Douds, at whose home the mother passed away; Mrs. Blackledge and Mrs. Toben of Mt. Sterling. One brother, William Stewart of Leando. One sister, Mrs. T.W. Haney of Keosauqua.

The family moved to Mt. Sterling in 1874 where they engaged in the hotel business and continued in this work for 33 years. Sister Davis was converted while a young girl and identified herself with the Methodist church. She lived a consistent christian life, attending church, though of recent years her strength was hardly sufficient for the task. Manifesting a love for God and an interest in his kingdom. Many of the older preachers were greeted and royally entertained in her home. Mr. Davis died May 24th, 1905.

Mrs. Davis made her home at Mt. Sterling until about seven years ago. Though she spent the greater part of her last years with her daughter, Mrs. McKibben yet she called Mt. Sterling her home and continued her membership in the Methodist church of Mt. Sterling.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist church at Mt. Sterling December 29th, at 1:40 p.m., conducted by Rev. A.L. Jordan.

Interment in Harness cemetery near Mt. Sterling.
