Biography

Ninian (Stewart) Stewart of Kilchattan is a member of Clan Stuart of Bute.
This profile is part of the Stewart Name Study.

Ninian Stewart was born about 1582 in Ballintoy, County Antrim, Ireland. He is the son of James Stewart,[1][2] the immigrant who came from Scotland in around 1560, and his wife Isabella Edmondstone. Ninian inherited his father's estate in Ballintoy before 1600.

Ninian Stewart was married to Grissel Stewart (1582-1647), the daughter of John Stewart, of Ardmaleish and his wife Jean Blair about 1600 in Ballintoy, Antrim, Ireland. [3]

They had many children but only three grew to adulthood:[4]

  1. Archibald Stewart. b. 1593 - d. 1665. [5]
  2. Ninian, m. Jane MacCullough[5]
  3. Catherine, m. John Stewart of Red Bay[5]
  4. Charles Stewart.

He passed away in 1682.
