MRS. ELIZA MORTON! Curran. The death of Mrs. Morton. which took place at her residence. Curran, on Wednesday, November 18th, evoked deep regret, not only in the village in which she resided for many long years, but in the entire district. Deceased was one of the most respected in the parish, and heart-felt sympathy goes out to her sons and daughters in their great loss. Mrs. Morton, who had reached an advanced age, was predeceased by her husband, an extensive farmer. During her illness she was attended by Dr. P. Hegarty, Magherafelt, and no efforts were spared to prolong the life of a loving mother to her family and a kindly neighbour to all. The high place she held in the community was shown by the large and representative attendance at her funeral, which took place on Friday to the family burying ground, Castledawson.

The chief mourners were:

  • Frank Morton and David Morton (sons)
  • Joseph Hammond and Joseph Stewart, (sons-in-law);
  • James Morton, James Stuart, Jack Stewart (grand-sons) ;
  • David Morton, sen., James Stewart, John Stewart, John Stewart, Bob Stewart, R. J. Stewart, W.J. Stewart, David Stewart, Jack M'Millan, Alexander Mann, Willie Mann, Harry Mann, and Thomas Mann (relatives).

Wreaths with the following inscriptions were placed on the grave:- "In loving memory from Frank and Tillie." " In fond remembrance from Minnie and Eliza." With deepest sympathy from Mrs. Lilman. " With deepest sympathy from Mrs. Stewart, Curran."[4]
