Biography

James was born in 1799. He was the son of James Stewart and Anne Abel. His family moved to Switzerland County, Indiana when he was six weeks old. ^[1]

He married Sarah Hannas in 1817. ^[2]

They had the following children:

2. Henry Stewart 1820–1913
3. James Abraham Stewart 1821–1905
4. Anna (Muret) 1824–1883
5. George Stewart b. 1827
6. Leander Madison Stewart 1832–1914
7. Martha Jane Stewart b. 1835
8. Sarah Elizabeth (Todd) 1840–1899
9. Phebe L. (Powlesson) b. 1842

Sarah died in 1853. Later that year he married Louisa Procter, widow of John Stepleton. ^[3]

They had two daughters:

1. Emma C. (Vance) 1854-1911
2. Amanda F. (Ogden) b. 1860

He farmed in Pleasant Township, Indiana. ^[4][5][6]

James passed away in 1865.
