Margaret's elder sister,Elizabeth Stewart married Master James Ogilvy of Balfour in 1554. She died without issue about 1560. It is recorded in the seventh volume of the Records of Bonds and Obligations in a contract dated at Edinburgh 27 April 1563, that sometime after the death of Margaret, her brother-in-law Mr Robert Crichton, Advocate to the King, brought an action on behalf of Elisabeth Stewart his wife and Archibald her brother "in and to yare pertis of abulziements, jewellis, and executry of Margaret".[3] By this agreement Mr Robert received 500 merks in satisfaction of his wife's right to Margaret's jewels.

Mr Robert Crichton, advocate to the Queen and Elizabeth Stewart, his spouse, agreed a Contract of Excambion dated 1 October 1564 with Sir William Kirkcaldy of Grange. Dame Margaret Learmonth , his spouse, and Thomas Kirkcaldy, his brother as cautioner, on the other part, whereby the latter agreed to infeft the former in the lands of Nether Friertoun in the regality of St Andrews, and the former to infeft the latter in the lands of Wester Clentrie in the lordship of Dunkeld, sheriffdom of Fife.[4]

In 1566 they amd over the fee of the lands of Cluny to their eldest son, James Crichton, reserving liferent for themselves.[5]

At Dunkeld on 10 July 1575, John, Earl of Atholl, granted a charter in favour of Mr. Robert Crichton and Elizabeth Stewart, his spouse, in liferent, and James Crichton, their son, in fee, of the right of digging and taking fuel and turfs from the moors and marshes of Corsbadis and Dulater lying in the forest of Cluny and taking these peats to their barony of Cluny. If she married about 1558 and had a son born in 1560, then she must have been born later than 1500. Her eldest brother was born about 1529 and given her marriage date a more likely birth date is about 1535 or later?
