Ashbel was born in 1735 to Rev Issac Stiles and Esther Hooker. He passed away in 1810.

In Memory of Mr. Ashbil/Stiles he died 10 Nov. 1810/ in the 75 year of his age ALSO/Mrs. Hannah his wife died/18 Sept. 1810 in the 76 year/of her age "Man dieth & waisteth away yea/Man giveth up the ghost & where is/he."
