Notes

Note N98"His wife, Mrs. John Armstrong [Sarah Stinson], was noted for her ability to discharge the many duties that at that time devolved on the mistress of the family. She was a pattern of industry; the spinning, the sewing, the laundry, the cooking and all the other kitchen work were under her inspection. She superintended her children's education, and looked after her house from the garret to the cellar, and all moved on smoothly -- no complaints of servants, although she ruled a number. She was kind and affectionate to every member of her household, and to all with whom she had to do. She had all the rights she desired -- was content if she could only train her children right and make home happy. her children loved her, her servants obeyed her, and her neighbors praised. She possessed the traits of character which, combined with true piety, make the noble woman, and they made her what she was. Some of her associates now living will sustain me in saying that every verse from the 10th to the 29th of the 31st chapter of Proverbs can truly be applied to her.". 1
