Biography

In 1895, the Stirling family lived in Grundy, Iowa. The head of household, Robert Stirling, 59, was born in Scotland, a farmer, who was entitled to vote. His wife, Ellen, born in Illinois, was 45. They were both Adventists. Their children, all born in Grundy County, included Robert E., 22, a farmer, entitled to vote, followed the M.E. Church; Nora A., 20, teacher, M.E. Church; Roy A., 18, M.E. Church; Don G., 14; Carl H., 13; Zella L., 12; Charlotte A., 10; Ira A., 9; Eva C., 8; and Lilly B., 5. [1]

In 1900, the Stirling family lived on their mortgaged farm in Beaver Township, Grundy, Iowa. The family included Ellen, 50, born in Illinois in May 1850, a widowed farmer; her eight children, all born in Iowa, the youngest five were in school: Roy A., 23, b. March 1877 (farm) manager; Don G., 20, b. June 1880, farm laborer; Carl H., 19, b. Aug. 1881, farm laborer; Zella L., 17, b. Jan. 1883; Charlotte A., 16, b. June 1884; Ira L., 15, b. July 1885, farm laborer; Eva C., 13, b. Jan. 1887; and Lilly Belle, 10, b. Jan. 1890. Also living with them was a boarder, William Snow, 29, who was a teamster. [2]

In 1910, the Stirlings lived at 1121 State Street, Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa. The family included Ellen Stirling, 59, born in Illinois (parents b. NJ), a widow, who had had twelve children, ten of whom were living; and her daughter, L. Belle Stirling, 20, b. Iowa (father b. Scotland), a public school teacher. Both could read and write. Ellen owned her home without a mortgage. [3]

Burial: Body donated to medical science; Specifically: donated to University of Southern California. [4]
