Maria Bassett Stith was the daughter of Bassett Stith (1765-1816) and Mary (Long) Stith (abt.1771-aft.1817). She married Judge Joseph Daniel of Halifax, North Carolina on 1 January 1822.[1][2]
In two articles in the William and Mary Quarterly, her grandson, Wikipedia:Armistead C. Gordon, identified the children of Judge Daniel and his wife Maria as follows:
Unfortunately, Armistead Gordon's identification of his grandfather's career culminating as a Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court conflicts with the Wikitree profile for Joseph Daniel Jr (abt.1784-abt.1872). The text of that profile claims the same distinguished career ending with death as a North Carolina Supreme Court Justice in 1848. The data of that profile, however, is entered with Judge Daniel's death in Georgia in 1872 and his children born in Geogia from 1808 on, and his wife counted in Georgia censuses. Since eleven children have been attached to that profile, it appears best to create a separate profile for Maria's husband.
