James H. Stith was the son of William Bathurst Stith Sr. and Mary Jordan.
James and wife, Sarah Polk(e), were enumerated during the 1850 census residing in Perry County, Indiana. A record in Perry County determines they were wed in Aug of 1849. Sarah's brother, Thomas Polk, was residing with the young couple. The Polk's were born in Indiana and James had moved with his brothers William Jr., and Thomas, from Kentucky to Perry County.
Sarah Polk Stith passed away 5 April 1855. James again married in Perry County to Sarah Jones in 1855. They returned to Kentucky and appeared in the Grayson County census of 1860. His middle name Harvey was recorded on the death record of son Edward. His marriage record to Sarah Jones (transcribed) his middle name as Harry. Regarding the children listed in the 1860 census, Naomi was in brother Samuel Stith's household in 1870, and Emma was in the household of sister Naomi Blaikely?
James was lastly married to Susan M. (Lane) Settle. Her children by her first marriage to James Settle were enumerated as "Stith" in James household of 1880. He died 1892.
