Thomas W. Stith was an editor and publisher born in Missouri to Benjamin W. Stith and Mary "Polly" D. Woolfolk. He married to Louisa Y. Stith, daughter of Thomas Hawfield Stith and Lucy Jones. He was the father of Lucy E. Stith born in Breckenridge County, Kentucky in 1860, the same year he acquired the Cloverport Journal.
Thomas enlisted in the Confederate Army and was in the Battle at Shiloh. He was listed as wounded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His death is recorded on muster roles as occurring before the end of 1863.
