Griffin was likely born about 1784. He was the son of Drury Stith and Mary Jacobs. He was named as an underage son in the 1789 will of his father Drury Stith.
He married in 1806 to Margaret Jones, a daughter of Albridgton Jones. He administered upon the estate of his father-in-law in 1809 which bequeathed to him the land in Southampton where he and Margaret resided.
Griffin was appointed as an Electorate from Southampton in 1808. His Southampton household of 1810 enumerated his wife and child. Griffin Stith, Esq. of Southampton was in 1816 appointed by the Executive Council for the Judicial District of Norfolk.[1]
Griffin Stith's death announcement was published in the Richmond Enquirer July 18, 1817 stating he had died in Petersburg on Thursday the 10th.[2] The 1820 census enumerated Margaret Stith's Estate in Southampton, with only slaves remaining thereupon the land bequeathed by her father to Griffin. It appears his wife had passed shortly after his death.
Note: The Stith Family genealogy of Dr. Christopher Johnson published in The William and Mary Quarterly, Vol 21, 1 Jan 1913 stated Griffin died in June of 1817, un-married. This does not appear to be factual.
