Biography
Roderick Ramine Stocking was born Christmas Day 25 December 1853 in Butler, Branch, Michigan to John Hurlburt Stocking and Betsy Jane Ames. His mother passed away when he was young and his father remarried Caroline Gates by 1860.
In 1860, Roderick R is six years old living in Clarksfield, Huron, Ohio with his father John H and stepmother Caroline and stepgrandfather Samuel Searls and grandmother Electa. [1]
He married Frances Hitchcock on 3 May 1876 in Crescent Cit, Iroquois, Illinois. [2]
In 1900, Roderick R is working as a farmer living in Ryan, Summer, Kansas with his wife Frances and their three sons Elmer, Ralph, and Roderick Porter [3]
In 1870, Roderick R is living in Onarga, Iroquois, Illinois with his father John and stepmother Caroline as well as grandmother Electa. [4]
In 1880, Roderick R working as a farmer living in Ryan, Sumner, Kansas with his wife Frances and young child Elmer Leverett, who is 6 months old. [5]
On 1 March 1885, Roderick R is living in El Dorado, Kansas with his father John, stepmother Caroline, wife Frances "Fanny", and young sons Elmer and Ralph. [6]
In 1910, Roderick R is living in Osborn, Sumner, Kansas with his wife Frances and their youngest child John L and two others William L Dewees and Carl H Yates. [7]
In 1920, Roderick R is living with his wife Frances and their youngest son John, 19 years old in Osborn, Sumner, Kansas. The house the reside in is owned outright by the family with no mortgage. [8]
In 1930, Roderick R is 75 years old and widowed. He is living at 27 Hutchson Street in Mayfield, Sumner, Kansas with his daughter-in-law Myrtle A Stocking and his grandchildren, Wilmer G, Max O, and Alice M. as well as some lodgers. [9] His son R. Porter and Myrtle were married on December 30, 1908, and Porter was killed on July 5th, 1924 when he was working on electrical lines. [10]
In 1940, Roderick R is 75 years old and widowed. He is living on Garfield Avenue in Mayfield, Sumner, Kansas with his daughter-in-law Myrtle A Stocking and his grandchildren, Wilmer G, Max O, and Alice Maxine. [11]
Roderick R Stocking passed away on August 17, 1951in Wellington, Sumner, Kansas. He outlived his wife and two of his sons leaving behind his sons Ralph and John.
His granddaughter has a blog where she has written some stories about the family. [12]
