Jerry, I appreciate your years of research on your Stockton ancestry. Please understand that I'm not in a position to arbitrate the parentage of Stockton-125, much less to conduct an intensive review of the research on him, and those things are not part of my unpaid "job" as New Netherland Project Leader.

The profile shows one set of parents who are marked uncertain. For all I can tell, his parents are unknown (and should be disconnected), but you say another pair of people are his parents. I don't see an explanation of your evidence (nor the evidence for the other claim), other than your assertion that DNA is consistent with the Stocktons of Wynbury but not those of Mapas. That's definitely worth discussing in the profile, but WikiTree doesn't map family trees based on DNA (at least not yet).

It doesn't help any that the profile has accumulated a good bit of sludge from incorporating contents of various merged profiles. It's also a problem that it doesn't use footnotes, and that the citation list includes "sources" that lack authors, publication details, etc.

The way that we are supposed to deal with conflicting viewpoints on WikiTree is to present our evidence (based on primary records and other reliable sources) and reasoning for discussion with others -- and [ideally] make a convincing case. Since this man has many descendants and his profile has many managers and Trusted List members, I think we need a discussion in G2G. Explain what you want to do and why you think the sources support that. Can you try that?

Life Sketches and Reminiscences of T. J. Stockton, Senior, Second Edition, 1898, p. 116.

"I have lost the record and dates on my mother's side. She was a Torbet. Her father was of Irish descent. I have their old Bible; it was printed in 1673, over two hundred and twenty-five years ago . . . My Grandfather Torbet married Hannah Sellers . . . "

Capt. James 4 Stockton, a son of Jesse 3 and Mary (nee Hays) Stockton, married Margaret Torbet. She was a daughter of Robert and Hannah (nee Sellers) Torbet.

T. J. 5 Stockton was a son of Captain James 4 and Margaret (nee Torbet) Stockton. In his 1898 book T. J. Stockton wrote that his mother's maiden name was Torbet and that her mother's name was Hannah (nee Sellers) Torbet.

Hi Jerry,

I see that you've marked a number of your male Stockton ancestors' relationships to their fathers 'confirmed with DNA'. On WikiTree when you do that there's a statement required to be added to the child's profile. Please see these instructions: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Confirmation Let me know if I can help. Thanks!
