Biography

William Henry Stockwell was born 22 Jan 1876, in Valley Falls, Jefferson County, Kansas. He was the son of Allan and Hannah (Snyder) Stockwell. In 1880, he was a four-year-old boy residing with his parents and three siblings in a home on Sycamore Street in Valley Falls, where his father worked at a livery stable.[1]

In 1900, William, now age 24, was still at home with his parents in Valley Falls. That year he was working as a teamster. His father was then serving as City Marshall.[2]

William married Cora Teter in about 1902. In 1910, William (identified as "Bud") and Cora, were residing in in a rented home at 1829 Lawn Ave., in Kansas City, Missouri, with their two sons, Harry (age 5) and Clifford (age 3). There, William was working as an industrial ironworker.[3]

By 1920, the couple had purchased a home and was residing at 1607 Hardesty in Kansas City, now with three children: Harry (age 14), Clifford (age 13), and Robert (age 7). William was then still working in the ironworks industry.[4]

By 1930, William and Cora had divorced, and William was no longer residing with his family. That year, he was staying in a hotel at 804 E. 12th Street in Kansas City. He was listed as single and still employed as an ironworker.[5] Ten years later, in 1940, William was still residing at the same hotel. At age 63, he was still described as an ironworker, although he is said to have been unemployed for the prior 150 weeks (nearly 3 years).[6]

William died 3 Apr 1959, at the Woods Rest Home in Kansas City, Missouri. His cause of death was listed as chronic myocarditis and chronic hypertension. He was 83 years old.[7]
