Biography

Lucien Stoker lived in Appalachia, in Kentucky.

Lucien Tanner Stoker was born about 3 Oct 1843 in Nicholas County, Kentucky, United States, son of Archibald Stoker and Elizabeth (Murphy) Stoker.

In the 1850 census Lucien Stoker (age 7) was an inferred son in the household of Archibald Stoker (45, farmer) and Elizabeth Stoker (39) in Nicholas County with five inferred siblings.[1]

In the 1860 census Lucien Stoker (age 17, farmer) was an inferred son in the household of A. Stoker (56, farmer) and Elizabeth Stoker (48) in District 2, Nicholas County with five inferred siblings.[2]

Roll of Honor
Lucien Stoker was a Prisoner of War during the United States Civil War.
Though Lucien did not fight during the Civil War, he was arrested at home as a Confederate sympathizer and supporter on 6 Jul 1862. He arrived at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio on 15 Jul 1862.[3][4] His papers for receipt into the camp described him as 19 years old, 5 feet and 7 inches tall, with grey eyes, light hair and a light complexion.[5] He was released on oath 26 Nov 1862.[6] In Jul 1863 Lucien (25, farmer) registered for the draft.[7]

In the 1870 census Lucien T. Stoker (age 27, farmer) was an inferred son in the household of Archibald Stoker (65, farmer) and Elizabeth Stoker (59) in Robertson County, Kentucky with four inferred siblings.[8] No deed mapping has yet been done for Archibald, but it seems likely that the family did not move. Robertson County was formed in 1867 from surrounding counties including Nicholas, and it seems likely the family farm existed in a portion of Nicholas that became Robertson.

Lucien P. Stoker and Emma A. Campbell were married by James Mann at the bride's home in Nicholas County on 12 Feb 1877 with J.T. Feeback and Thomas Campbell as witnesses.[9]. Their children were:

  1. Carrie L. (Stoker) Whaley (1878-1901)
  2. Lula Kate (Stoker) Shepherd (1880- )
  3. Margaret (Stoker) Robinson (1882-1972)
  4. James Stoker (1886-1974)
  5. Mary Dee (Stoker) Shepherd (1893-1921)

According to family records, Lucien died about 12 Jul 1895 in Piqua, Robertson County, Kentucky aged 51. No records for his death or burial have yet been located.
