Gabriel was born in 1762. He was the son of Rev John Stokes and Hannah Boswell.
He was educated by Dr Stokes and entered Trinity College Dublin on 10 April 1779, aged 17. Sch 1781, B.A. 1783, M.A. 1802. [1]
Rector of Skreen in the diocese of Killala and Achonry.
Gabriel married Elizabeth Haughton, daughter of the Rev. John Haughton, Rector of Kilrea, in 1798. [2]
He died in 1834. [3]

- May 8, at the Rectory House, Skreen, the Rev. Gabriel Stokes, A.M., Rector of that Parish, and Vicar-General of the Diocese of Killala and Achonry for many years.
