Biography
John R Stone was born about 1831 in Kentucky, United States according to the 1880 US census, which lists him and his family.[1] In the 1910 US census, probably the same person is listed as born about 1837 in Kentucky.[2] And a plausible marriage record indicates he was born about 1834.[3] It is presently assumed that all these dates were approximate.
A possible marriage record is John Stone (22, born Floyd County, Kentucky) married Susan Rister (20, born Carter County, Kentucky) on 22 Aug 1856 in Greenup, Kentucky.[3] (This marriage is consistent with first child born in 1858; however subsequent census records indicate that Susan was about 9-10 years younger than John. It is assumed that ages provided to the marriage licence were approximate.)
In 1880, John Stone (49, parents born in Kentucky), was married to Susan Stone (40, parents born in Kentucky). They were living in Liberty, Greenup, Kentucky with their children Miranda (22), John (16), Enoch (14), Mary (9) and William (5). He was a farmer.[1]
In 1910, John R Stone (73, parents born in Kentucky), was married to Susan A Stone (63, parents born in Kentucky). They were living in Independence, Kenton, Kentucky, with two boarders.[2]
Research Note
There were several John Stone's in this time and place. This is a plausible profile for one of them, except the listed marriage to Menerva is almost certainly a different person. It would be helpful to track this John Stone through the other census records to better characterize him.
