DEATH OF MR. C. STONEMAN.
BROKEN HILL lost another of its well known identities when the death occurred at the Hospital last night of Mr. Christopher (Chris) Stoneman at the age of 73 years. He had resided in Broken Hill for about 30 years. Mr. Stoneman, who was a clerk, at one time worked for the Globe Proprietary Ltd., and some years ago moved to Adelaide, where he was employed by the S.A. Salvage Co. He returned to Broken Hill five or six years ago and again took up employment with the Salvage Co., who had contracts in Broken Hill. In the sporting sphere, Mr. Stoneman was best known in rifle shooting circles, and was considered an excellent marksman. He won several trophies for his shooting. In his early years he was interested in cycling and once rode a penny farthing machine. Mr. Stoneman's death was unexpected as he entered Hospital for treatment of a minor ailment and later went into a coma from which he did not recover. A widow and one daughter (Mrs F. C. Kitchen) survive. A sister (Mrs. I. Guffy),also resides in Broken Hill. Mr. Stoneman was a member of Lodge Umberumberka 141.
