Johnstone Percy Lipyeatt Stoney was born on 27 April 1881. He was the son of Johnstone Thomas Stoney and Arabella Louisa Lipyeatt.[1]

He gained the rank of Major in the service of the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.

He lived at Emell Castle, Cloughjordan, County Offaly, Ireland.

Johnstone died on 15 March 1958 at age 76, unmarried.[3]
