Mary (Stoney) Archer was born in Ireland.

Mary Anne Elizabeth Stoney was born in 1846. She was the eldest daughter of James Johnstone Stoney and Elizabeth Lucia Minchin.

Her father James passed away on 3 August 1849 at age 58, when she was only about 3 years of age. Her mother remarried, to George Valentine Andrews on 2 November 1853.

Sadly her only sister Ruth Georgina Stoney died on 25 August 1856 at about age 9.

Mary married George Thompson Archer (the son of William Lamb Archer) on 4 October 1866 at Templeharry Church in the parish of Templeharry, King County, Ireland, by Licence[1]. The witnesses were George Andrews and William Barratt.

They went on to have two sons.

Her husband George was in the merchant navy.

Sadly her elder son William died on 18 April 1875 at the age of 7. Three days later, her husband died on 21 April 1875 on board the s.s. Hydaspes.

In the 1901 Ireland Census, M A E Archer (aged 55, a Lady) was recorded in the household of her married brother Johnston T Stoney (51, a Gentleman), his wife A L Stoney (53) and their three children D R Stoney (22), Johnston P L Stoney (19) and Cecil R W Stoney (18) at Emmel, Templeharry, King's County[2].

In the 1911 Ireland Census, Mary Anne Archer (aged 65) was recorded in the household of her brother-in-law Robert H Emerson (55, a Solicitor) at 31 Morehampton Road, Pembroke West, Dublin. Also with her was her widowed mother Elizabeth L Andrews (87)[3].

Mary Anne Elizabeth Archer was residing at 11 Mulgrave Terrace, Kingstown, County Dublin when she passed away on 11 March 1924 at the age of 79 due to Bronchitis[4]. Her Will was proved on 9 May 1924 at Dublin to her surviving son George Johnstone Stoney Archer, colonel R.A.M.C. (retired)[5]. Her Effects were valued at £1319 12s. 2d.
