Biography

Tillie / Matilda / Zipora Storch was born about Dec 1890 in Austria, likely in Gorlice, Galicia, daughter of Shaie Storch and Sime Solomon.

She departed Gorlice, Galicia, Austria, sailing 11 Nov 1891 from Hamburg, and arrived 23 Nov 1891 in New York City with her mother and 3 older siblings; appears her father sailed earlier, maybe to earn money to bring the rest of family, maybe due to her coming or then-recent birth.

Have not found her or other family members in 1892 NY or 1900 censuses.

In 1905 NY census, she is living in Manhattan, age 16, with her mother age 52, and her just-married brother Henry age 21 and his wife Annie age 19. No sign of her still-living father, or sibling born in 1893; 2 older brothers are married and appear in census in their own residences.

Have not found her in any censuses other than 1905, nor her mother who was widowed in 1908 & lived until 1922.

She married Harry G Friedman, on 5 Jun 1915, in Kings, New York. Marriage record on FamilySearch correctly lists her parents Charles Storck & Jennie (Sime) Solomon.

Per family stories, she moved to Hartford.
