Biography

This profile is part of the Chebacco Parish, Massachusetts One Place Study.

John Story was born on 19 Jun 1694, in Ipswich, Essex County, in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Samuel Story and Elizabeth Burnham.[1]

John and Sarah Choate published their intention to marry on 16 Feb 1716/7, at the Chebacco Parish Church in Ipswich.[2] They were probably married there shortly afterwards. After their marriage, John and Sarah lived in Ipswich until 1723 or 1724, when they relocated to Norwich, New London County, in the Colony of Connecticut. Although there are no records of their children in Ipswich from before their move, a clerk in Norwich apparently entered all eight of them into the records there, including the two who had been born in Ipswich:

  1. John Storey (b. 22 Nov 1717, Ipswich)[3]
  2. Sarah Story (b. 2 Jun 1722, Ipswich)[4]
  3. Henry Story (b. 31 Aug 1724, Norwich)[5]
  4. Ephraim Story (b. 9 Nov 1726, Norwich)[6]
  5. William Story (b. 2 Dec 1728, Norwich)[7]
  6. James Story (b. 16 Jul 1730, Norwich)[8]
  7. Mary Story (b. , Norwich)[9]
  8. Solomon Story (b. 26 Mar 1737, Norwich)[10]

Sarah's father, Samuel Choate had died intestate in 1713. The court, therefore, apportioned his estate among the heirs. The eldest son, Samuel, chose to pay his siblings their share of the value of the real estate, rather than break it up between them or sell it. Some years after John and Sarah married, on 25 Oct 1723, John signed a receipt indicating that he had received Sarah's portion of the value from her brother.[11]

Story-1466 and Story-1230 appear to represent the same person because: You seem to have more info than I do! My grandfather has a lot of research on this that I need to see but I don't have currently.
