Biography

June Rose Story Henson July 14, 1926 - Jan. 23, 2007

June was born in a log cabin in Vancouver, Washington , July 14, 1926. She was the 5th child of Marion and Charlotte Story. June attended and graduated from K.C. High School. She worked as a telephone operator for 15 years in Bakersfield and Lake Tahoe.

In 1955 she married Billy G. Henson of Bakersfield. They had two children, Carrie Henson Kelley and Marc Henson.

In 1979 Bill and June moved to Alaska, following the oil industry, and lived there for 13 years before moving back to Bakersfield, in 1991, for their retirement years. June's favorite pastimes were taking long drives, walking the beach, going trout fishing and playing the piano and mandolin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte May and Marion Del Roy Story; sisters, Sherrie Scherer, Eileen Hayes, Jacqueline Cook, Jean Hardcastle, Jeannette Jacober; brothers, Jack Story, Bobby Story, Jerry Story, Gary Story, Steve Story and husband, Bill Henson.

She is survived by her sisters, Jane Hudson of Pebble Beach, CA, Charlotte Harris, Joanne Paulk, Lidwina Lynn, and Sandy Grove of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Scotty Story of Northern CA, Clyde Story, Jim Story, and Terrytown Story of Bakersfield, CA; daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Carrie, Tom, Jonathan and Benjamin Kelley of Anchorage, AK; son, Marc Henson of Sacramento, CA; and grandson, Jason Henson of Penole, CA.

Her family held a celebration of her life at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Richard Grove, on Saturday, January 27, 2007. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Optimal Hospice of Bakersfield and Breast Cancer Prevention organizations.
