Book: Hosea Stout Lawman, Legislator, Mormon Defender by Stephen L Prince p 34 Chap 3 Quakers and Methodists Though Ephraim Stout is credited with being the first settler in Stout's Grove, he was accompanied by several family members at the very least, including his eighty-four-year old mother, Rachel, most likely his spinster sister, Margaret (who constantly atteneded her mother) and nephews Amasa and Matthew Stout. Ephraim's brother Samuel and nephew John Stout were the first settlers of Little Mackinaw Township, about seven miles west of Stout's Grove, where a sister who settled. Close by in Brown's Grove, were Ephraim's brother David and nephew Samuel Stout, who settled in 1826. Thus by the time he arrived in 1828 Hosea was surrounded by at least three uncles, two aunts, his grandmother Stout and about seventy cousins.
NOTE: Per the Journal of Allen Joseph Stout he was also on the journey to Stout's Grove with Uncle Ephraim and his grandmother, Rachel.
