Samuel Smith Stout, son of Hezekiah Jr and Margaret Ann Smith Stout, born July 26 1842 in Gilmer County WV and died September 23 1922 in Los Angeles, CA. [1] [2] He married Meesee Ann Rickman, daughter of James Henry and Eliza Jane Faubion Rickman, May 7 1871 in Plum Grove, KS [3] born May 3 1853 in Jefferson County KS and died August 3 1923 in Los Angeles CA [4] [5]

Samuel sold 130 acres of land on the Little Kanawha River in Gilmer County WV October 27, 1863 to Robert Rose and Sarah Stout (daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Stump Stout, Samuel Smith’s first cousin) Marshall. He sold additional land on the Little Kanawha April 20 1865 which included the land he inherited from his father. [6] He left West Virginia and through census records we can track his travels across the United States and finally in California Death records.
