Biography

Surrey (historic flag)
Sarah (Stout) Cooper was born in Surrey, England.
Sarah was born in 1845[1] in Southwark, Surrey, England. She lived with her parents, William Stout and Sarah Beacham, in Bermondsey, Surrey, in 1851[2] and in Southwark in 1861.[3]

Sarah married William Farndell in Southwark, London, in 1869.[4] In 1871 the family lived at 114 Cator Street in Camberwell, Surrey. William worked as a baker.[5] At the time of the 1891 census, Sarah lived with her children, Thomas and Florence, on Arthur Street in Peckham, Surrey. She worked as a charwoman.[6]

William was in and out of London workhouses from 1886. On Friday 13 August 1886, he and his son Charles were admitted to the Woolwich Road workhouse in the parish of Greenwich. His son Thomas followed the next day.[7] William was discharged on 4 January 1893, as he had "not returned from liberty,"[8] but was admitted to the Havil Street workhouse in Camberwell on 19 January,[9] where he died in of bronchitis in October that year.[10]

In 1896 Sarah married John Cooper in Peckham, Surrey. Both lived at 76 Nutcroft Road.[11] Sarah lived with her daughter Clara on Kincaid Road in Camberwell in 1901.[12] She was a widow by the time of the 1911 census, when she lived in Chelmsford, Essex.[13]

Sarah died in 1921 at the age of 75.[14]
