Biography
Sammie Stovall Hays was my great-aunt. She married Claude Hays. She is listed as male on the 1900 census. This is an error. The dates for her age and family are correct. The census taker must have incorrectly assumed that Sammie was a male's name. He recorded it as Samuel. There was no Stovall brother named Samuel. The 1910 Census lists Sammie as female, age 14.
