Eugene Clifton Stovall

Mr. Stovall, a retired oil operator, and banker moved to Texas in 1900. He was a large landowner, was well known in the oil circles of Texas. He and his son were active in oil production in Young and other counties for a number of years on the Stovall plantation near South Bend. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Stovall was the first in Young County to begin large-scale farming operations at his plantation near South Bend. He was the first to begin large-scale irrigation from the Clear Fork of the Brazos River. Mr. Stovall created Stovall Hot Wells using a technique from the hot salt water as a sideline and hobby. He at first made the healing waters available without charge. It was with reluctance he finally erected a modern hotel and treatment facilities so the waters could be enjoyed by all under carefully guarded conditions.
