Her father was twenty-nine years old when he married her mother on 23 October 1801. Their first child, Matthias, was born on 26 March 1802. Their children followed rapidly and by the time they had been married seven years, they had five children.
On 23 November 1840, about two months after her twenty-first birthday, Polly married Joseph Moomaw in Botetourt County, probably at Botetourt Springs, and bore him twelve children, seven sons and five daughters (Joseph's older brother B.F. Moomaw became an outstanding leader in the Virginia German Baptist Brethren Church in the Civil War era.).:
Calvin Fabricius Moomaw
Maria Elizabeth (Moomaw) Pobst
Lucy Ann (Moomaw) Hooke
Edward J. Moomaw
Cephas Benjamin Moomaw, Esq.
Matthew Henry Moomaw
George Stover Moomaw
Simon Joseph Moomaw
Sarah (Moomaw) Painter
Charles William Moomaw
Minerva Susan (Moomaw) Thomas
Mary Lydia "Lillie" Salome (Moomaw) Layman
Ten days before her sixty-ninth birthday, on 20 September 1888, Polly died of typhoid fever (which she had contracted from a patient) in Daleville, Botetourt County, Virginia. She is buried in Daleville Cemetery.
"First and most faithful at the bedside of the sick in the community, her willing mind made her a leader upon communion occasions. . . . rugged in health, never before having had the aid of a physician, she took [to] her bed to sleep in Jesus.
"She whiled away her last hours without a murmur. . . . How consoling to her devoted husband and believing children, to know they have a wife and affectionate mother waiting and watching for them over there. Oh may those of her family who have not felt Jesus precious unto them, look upon that vacant maternal chair and ever remember there is a preparation indispensable for a reunion with that mother, whose kind and willing hands had so lately and so often lent them assistance in their afflictions and sorrows.
