George was born on November 4, 1889, in Horton (Bradford), Yorkshire, England. He was the son, and second of seven children, of Albert Stowell and Mary Hannah Armitage. George was Baptized on November 3, 1895 at Saint Stephen Church, Bowling, Bradford, Yorkshire. He was presented by his parents, and baptized the same day as his brother, Fred, and sister, Ada. George lived with the family in the Bradford area until November of 1909. He, and younger brother Frank left England out of Liverpool on the 10th of November, aboard the ship "Merion", bound for America. They landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 22nd. They were joined by the rest of the family in 1910.

George married Mary Ann Spencer in Philadelphia in 1911. She had made the journey from England in November of 1910, and had listed George as her contact, or "friend" on the manifest. By 1920, the family had settled on Paul Street in north Philadelphia. George was a fireman in a textile mill, and he and Mary Ann had three children, aged seven, to eighteen months. In the 1930 Census, George checks that he is a Naturalized Citizen, but no records have been found, to date. George spent his working career as a "Fireman" in various manufacturing businesses, with his last job being listed as an "Engineer" for a Baptist Home.

George died on April 15, 1944, at age 54 in Philadelphia. The cause of death was listed as "Auricular Fibulation". His funeral service was held at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. He was Buried on April 19, 1944, at East Cedar Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
