Edward (second of the name), son of Edward Stradling and his wife, Ellena/Elleanor Strongbow, [1] was born about 1318, given his mention as Bristol merchant in 1339, most likely in St. Donat's, Glamorgan, Wales, but possibly in one of the Somerset estates.
Sir Edward Stradling and Gwenllian Berkerolles, daughter of Sir Roger Berkerolles and heiress to her brother, Sir Lawrence Berkerolles, were married about 1360 [1] [2] in St. Athan, Glamorgan. [3]
This marriage had the following children.
Upon his father's death, Edward gained hereditary titles, along with the knight's fee of St. Donat's and other Stradling family estates. His marriage into the Berkerolles line set the stage for his grandson to eventually inherit most of their estates, as well.
He was heir and armiger of the Stradling of St. Donat's lineage and by his mother, co-heir to Strongbow and Garnon. Given his grandson, Edward Stradling KHS, quartered St. Barbe, Justyn, Turberville and Berkerolles with subsequent descendants showing Stradling, Hawey, Strongbow and Garnon ahead of those in their quartering, Sir Edward must have added to his father's heraldic arms by quartering (1) Stradling, (2) de Hawey, (3) Strongbow, (4) Garnon. [4]
Sir Edward died about 1394 leaving his estates to his son and heir, William Stradling. [5]
