Bill was born at 36 Amisfield St, Maryhill in Glasgow the eldest of three boys on 3 Sep 1928. He was baptised at his mother's church in Kirkintilloch.
Little is recorded about his early life but he went to school around Maryhill and then to Glasgow University. He was a mad keen football player, gaining some fame until a leg injury. His family moved down to Fairlie but Bill had started work as a Personnel Officer for an Engineering company and was living in Airdrie.
He served some time in the Army at the back of the Second World War and was an Instructor stationed at Bath, England, for a while.
He was a good amateur golfer and represented many clubs during his time playing between 3 and 9 for most of his working life. One of the holes at the Largs Golf Course in Ayrshire was designed by him and named after him for some time.
He was an avid Scoutmaster and later in life would become Scoutmaster for the Pilbara region in Western Australia covering a vast sprawling landmass in efforts to raise boys, and by then girls, in scouting traditions.
Visiting the family in Fairlie he met Mary Irene McCulloch, did his romancing around Fairlie and Largs and married at St. Paul's Parish Church in Fairlie on the 25 Sep 1953.
Both Bill's and Mary's parents were in the motor car business and so it seems like an obvious match.
At the end of 1968 he, and the family, migrated to Australia, arriving in Perth in the summer of 1968/69. Soon moving to their new home in Port Hedland, Western Australia, the family settled into their new environment. The family would later disprese with some remaining in Western Australia and otehrs further afield.
Bill and some of the family moved to Adelaide where they lived for some time prior to returning to Perth, Western Australia, where he remained.
Bill died, of a heart attack, at his home in Waikiki, Perth, Western Australia on the morning of Christmas Day 2001.
He was cremated and his ashes buried at Freemantle, Perth, Western Australia on the 2nd Jan 2002. His wife, Irene, would join him once again in 2011 and they rest together at the Freemantle Crematorium Rose Memorial BP26 0010.
Always a Scot at heart family representatives gained permission to remove some ashes in 2013 and they returned them to Scotland resting them at Fairlie, Ayrshire the village they loved dearly.
