Biography
As a youngster, Dewey hopped a freight train to go to Chillicothe, Missouri business school to learn telegraphy among other things. He subsequently worked for the Frisco railroad as a station agent and telegrapher at various locations in Arkansas and Missouri. He suffered a stroke at a relatively early age which caused him to leave the railroad and work as an elevator operator at a department store in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. After a more serious stroke he moved with his wife to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be near his son Harold.
