Thomas was baptized 24 March 1624/5 at Layham Parish, Suffolk, England. This agrees with his 29 April 1658 deposition in which he stated his age was "about 34 years." Thomas was a son of Benjamin Stratton and Alice (Hawkins) Stratton.
Thomas immigrated to Virginia with his mother, Alice (Stratton) Bagwell, wife of Henry Bagwell, and two servants c. 1628. The servant, John Waltham/Walthum went to court on 16 November 1635 to request the 50 acres due him for his 7 years service.
This is proved by Alice's Court request on 28 November 1636 for 200 acres in Northampton County, due her for transporting herself, her son, Thomas Stratton, and two servants: John Waltum and John Crowder, at her own expense. Afterwards, Alice assigned 100 acres to her son, Thomas Stratton and 100 acres to her daughter, Mary Chilcott.

Thomas died November 2, 1659 at Northampton County, Virginia.
