DNA

Y-DNA Haplogroup: I1-L592

NOTE:
DNA testing has united descendants of our subject with a descendant of Martin STRAUB (1616-1676), of Gemmingen and Grossgartach, Heilbronn, Wuerttemberg. Johann Pieter STRAUB (b. 18 Feb 1695 in Grossgartach) who was a grandson of Martin STRAUB through his son, Johann/Hans Adam STRAUB. There is no doubt whatsoever that these test subjects have a near common ancestor, so we have discovered the origin of the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia, who became the major progenitor of STRAUB / STROUP in the United States as well as ancestor of President Barack OBAMA - [1]

NOTICE:
A descendant of our subject, through ihs grandson Antonius, is participating in the STRAUB Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project. This descendant is a tight genetic match with descendants of Antonius's brother, Johann Pieter STRAUB (1695-1760s), the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia. Johann Pieter (a.k.a., Peter STROUP) is the second earliest known STRAUB immigrant to the United States — the earliest known immigrant was Johannes STRAUB (a.k.a., John STROPE) to New York in 1710, whom DNA test results show is not related — but Peter is the one who has, by far, the most known descendants of any STRAUB immigrant to the U.S. We are very much interested in knowing whether Peter (and his sons, Jacob and Peter) are the only members of Martin's extended family to emigrate to the U.S. If you are working on STRAUB genealogy in Germany and find evidence that any of your family members emigrated, please let us know and please consider having a male of the family DNA tested. - [2] Thank You Diana Gale Matthiesen

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John Peter:

I am one of four managers of this profile, but I have no DNA information about him to document or confirm.

Johann Peiter (John Peter) Straub is one of my 5th great grandfathers on my maternal side and I am glad to coordinate with anyone on what little I know. Dick Gates [email address removed]

Straub-85 and Straub-355 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same. They are my ancestor.

Hi Lamar and Dick, Does anyone know why Straub-355 is showing as a rejected match, when this is Straub-355. I'm going to try and work on getting our family consolidated, if anyone wants to pitch in and help it would be appreciated. If there is anything one of you thinks we need to start with let me know.Jenny

Here is a link to a site that has a lot of info on the whole Straub/Stroube/ Stroup/Troup and other variations of the name. They also have sources and DNA. I am a descendant of a Straub and have a DNA test. I have a cousin here who also has one. President Obama's line comes down from John Peter Straub's brother. I think that they have DNA tests on that line as well. Hope any of this helps. - Ken

Straub-318 and Stroupe-13 appear to represent the same person because: This is an ancestor of mine and I have researched it in detail, with several proving points. These are the same man.
