Mary Street was born on the 12th of May 1810 to Samuel Street and Elizabeth Scholfield at Manchester, Lancashire England.
Mary was the fourth of eight children. She was small and had a dark complexion. As a young girl she worked hard carrying large baskets of clothes on her head to deliver them.
Mary Street married Thomas Bateman at age 19 on the 18th of August 1829 at Manchester, Lancashire, England.

Mary was baptized in the L.D.S. Church in approx. 1836. Mary sailed with Thomas to the United States in approx. In 1840 they decided to emigrate to America. The Ship Lehi Philadelphia arrived in New Orleans in April, 1840.
Mary, Thomas and Family were the first LDS Members to land at New Orleans. In 1841 Mary and Thomas moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. Thomas, a master brick layer helped build the Nauvoo Temple. Mary and Thomas moved Augusta, Iowa after four months. They settled on the Skunk River in the Spring of 1843. Here they purchased a farm and brickyard.
In 1844, the LDS Church members were called back to Nauvoo. Mary was sealed to Thomas Bateman on the 28th of January 1846 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Later they returned again to Augusta, Iowa where Thomas found work.
Mary Street age 40 and Thomas Bateman were Utah pioneers in the James Pace Company of 1850. Mary Street and Thomas Bateman settled in West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah in 1852.
She was rebaptized in Salt Lake City on 1 January 1852
