Walter Strickland, K.B., was the son of Thomas Strickland, Knt., of Sizergh, Westmorland,[1][2] and Agnes Parr.[3][4][5] His date and place of birth are unknown; however, his parents marriage settlement was dated 1465,[3] so he was probably born soon after that date at Sizergh, Westmorland, where his father held lands.
Marriage and Children
Walter married to Elizabeth Pennington, widow of ____ Salkeld[6] and daughter of John Pennington, Knt., of Muncaster, Cumberland, and Isabel Broughton about 14 July 1491. They received a dispensation dated 27 and 30 March 1491 as they were related in the 3rd and 4th degrees of kindred.[3] They had two sons and three daughters:
Walter, Knt., son and heir, born before 1498, died 9 January 1528, married first Agnes Redman and second to Katherine Neville, with whom he had issue[1][2][3][5]
On 20 November 1493, Sir Thomas Strickland granted to his son and heir Walter "a messuage and 60 a. land etc. in Sigiswyke in Kendale, which the donor had by the gift and feoffment of Thomas Chambir and Robert his son and heir".[8]
Walter appears as "Esq." in early documents, the first being a letter of attorney from Walter to Gervase Strickland and William Lambert to receive seisin of several manors and messuages in Westmorland[2] with a date of 13 Henry VII (1497/8).[1]
In covenants dated 16 April 1498, Walter contracted the marriage of his son Walter to "Annes, daughter of Richard Redman, junior". The covenants were between Walter, on the first part, and John Preston of Preston Hall, Esq. and "Elyn, late wife of Richard Redman of Thornton, junior" on the other part.[1][2] Walter agreed to pay John and Elyn £40 for the contract and arranged to take Agnes into his care.[2]
On 30 April 1501, Walter conveyed all his manors and properties in Westmorland to Sir Thomas Dacre, Thomas Parr Esq., Thomas Middleton Esq., John Pennington Esq., and Thomas Strickland, Rector of the Church of Gosforth, to hold in trust[2] for the purposes of his will.[1]
Walter was created a Knight of the Bath at the marriage of Arthur, Prince of Wales, on 14 November 1501.[9]
On 19 July 1504, Sir George Lumley granted to Sir Walter Strickland of Sizergh the office of steward in Kendall for life, receiving 53s. 4d. yearly as fee.[10]
Death
Walter died on 26 September 1506.[5][11] An inquisition held 1 October 1506 names his son and heir, Walter, aged nine years and more.[11]
Elizabeth, his widow, was assigned her dower on 12 January 1507.[11] She remarried in 1508 to Sir Richard Cholmeley of Thornton-on-the-Hill, Yorkshire (he died December 1521). She remarried again before 1527 to Sir William Gascoigne of Cardington, Bedfordshire (he died after 17 March 1539/40).[3][6] Elizabeth left a will dated 18 April 1546, proved 12 October 1546.[3]

The bio text says he had 2 sons and 3 daughters, but tree only shows 1 son and 1 daughter. I am trying to discover when the Boyngton/Strickland line branched off from main Strickland line.
The 1st Strickland of Boynton is here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Strickland-4579. His grandson was 1st baronet. That Strickland family is not connected to this one .. at least not on WikiTree. I won't be working on that line as a part of the current Magna Carta trail. You may wish to collaborate with the profile managers or ask the England Project for some help with that line.
I've only just finished working on this Walter's grandson's profile (Strickland-135). It may be a few days to a week before I get to this one.
I will soon be developing this profile as a part of a Magna Carta trail from Gateway Edward Carleton to surety barons Robert de Ros and the Bigods. See the trail HERE.
