Biography

When Richard Shepherd Strickland was born on September 2, 1823, in Lambeth, Surrey, England, his father, Charles, was 34 and his mother, Catherine, was 40. He was meant to be the heir to the Chocolate and Broma factory with his older brothers at age 18, but something went wrong; the business was sold and he emigrated to the United States, working as a laborer in Illinois 1850.He married Mary Reed on February 28, 1846. They had one child during their marriage. He had four brothers and five sisters. Not found after 1850.


Emigration: His sister Harriet arrived on the Yorktown 28 May, 1849. Haven't found his ship but likely around the same time if not the same ship. 1849 New York, USA.
