Jacob was born to Henry A. and Frances (Stewart) Strickler of Broadford, Pennsylvania.
He was first married to Sarah Stuart in about 1822; they had three children (Lewis, Jane, and Daniel). Sarah died in 1827.
He married a second time to Reumah Anne Wood in 1827. They had 15 children including son John W. Strickler, a Civil War veteran who died in the Andersonville Confederate prison in Georgia.
Jacob died at the age of 82. He survived his second wife, Reumah, by 21 years. [9]
