(Likely that this military history is a mash-up. Must be confused with nephew John Marcus Stritmater 1845-1928)
John served as a Company K Corporal in the Roundheads (100th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry) during the Civil War on the northern side.
John was a carpenter and father of prominent merchants and founders of the Stritmater Bros. department store in New Castle, Pa.
A page 2 article in the 7 August 1889 Daily City News says that John died 18 December 1849. However, he is enumerated 17 August 1850 in that year's Census.
In 1921, the Old Stone Curch cemetery (aka Associate Presbyterian Church or Old Seceder) became the Jackson Park. His was among those Interments moved to the Greenwood Cemetery.
