Biography

Joseph Strock was born 15 Sep 1805 in Monroe Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Jacob Strock and Elizabeth Wise.

Joseph, the eldest son, worked on his father's farm, attending the old log schoolhouse at Churchtown until he was eighteen years of age, when he began the trade of cabinet-maker in New Cumberland, and there remained two years.[1]

After working in new Cumberland, Carlisle, York, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Baltimore, Maryland, in 1929 he settled in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County. On 24 Dec of that year, at age 24, he married Margaret Nealey. They remained in Mechanicsburg for two years and then moved to neighboring Trindle Spring, where he purchased a farm.[1][2] In 1871 or 1872, after retiring, they moved back into Mechanicsburg.

Joseph and Margaret had nine children.[3]

  1. Daniel N. Strock (1830-1889)
  2. Elizabeth Ann (Strock) Long (1832–1912)
  3. Mary Ann (Strock) Shearer (1835–1929)
  4. William Emory Strock (1837–1928)
  5. Sarah Rebecca (Strock) Reeser (1838–1911)
  6. Jacob Neagley Strock (1841–1910)
  7. Joseph H. Strock (1844–aft.1886)
  8. Albert S. Strock (1850–1850)
  9. John C. Strock (1850–1854)

Joseph died 12 Nov 1889 and is buried with his wife and other members of his family at Trindle Springs Lutheran Cemetery, Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County.
