Lewis Alfred Strong was born in 1923, the elder son of Mabel Ellen (neé Taft) and William Strong of 2 Opua Street, Belmont, Auckland, New Zealand.
He was a keen yachtsman, educated at Belmont School and the Seddon Memorial Technical College. [1]
